"You Have No Power Over Me!"

My piece was inspired by the 80's movie, The Labyrinth. I wanted to create what the aftermath would look like after the Goblin King's 'power'. The Goblin King created and morphed an entire world for Sara, the main protagonist. This includes all the characters in this world, such as Hoggle, the gnome-like character below the cliff, and Ludo, an orange monster that sits on the edge of the cliff in my piece. The Goblin King ends up losing his power over Sara, turning him into an owl. That being said, the aftermath of the Labyrinth movie, in my vision, is what the Goblin King left behind, but more happier and peaceful. I feel like this description matches my landscape pretty nicely.



I think this project shows my artistic strengths but also shows my weaknesses. I actually surprised myself with how well the actual Labyrinth turned out. I was worried that the diminishing scale would be too hard, but that didn't end up being the problem. The main thing that bugs me is the lack of detail in texture. I wish I put more detail into the stone walls of the labyrinth, and maybe more detail in the bricks of the castle. I also wanted to make the cliff seem closer than the actual labyrinth, but I find myself questioning if it is done correctly. Overall, I am mostly happy with how this pastel drawing ended up looking in the end.
